France is home to some of the best fairy tale castles in the world. A tour of the many architectural marvels in the country would at once take you back to the world of the bygone era complete with kings, princesses and knights. Initially the castles were mere fortifications against attackers. These had a simple structure and were utilitarian in purpose. As centuries elapsed the castles were gradually transformed to elaborate structures situated amidst beautiful surroundings.

The renaissance French castles are magnificent structures. The renaissance style of architecture was introduced in France with the building of the royal chateau of Fontainebleau in 1528. This chateau brought in the elements of Italian architecture to France. The structure has well laid out interiors and is surrounded by beautiful gardens.

France is famous for the wonderful renaissance chateaux like Chambord, Blois and Chenonceau. These magnificent castles were the residence of the many kings and courtiers. These renaissance castles were influenced by the Italian renaissance. The Chambord castle was not built to be a defensive structure. It was meant to be a beautiful construction designed to be the hunting lodge of King Francois I. This is an extravagant building and is a testimony to the renaissance style of architecture.

The Blois castle in France is a prestigious renaissance structure. It is also a perfect example of the evolution of the architectural style of the French from the earlier medieval style of architecture. This structure was initially designed to be a fortress but later it was converted into a breathtakingly beautiful structure. The castle has an exquisitely designed interior.

The Chenonceau is one of the most celebrated of the many castles that are present in Loire Valley. To an onlooker it might seem as if the castle is floating in the river. It was used as a mill in the middle ages but further developments on it has made it one of the most beautiful renaissance French castles.

The renaissance French castles with their décor and beautiful structures would make one aware of the rich architectural style that flourished in France in the past.
